Overcoming constraints of space and engaging the imagination of the threshold of two spaces, this evolving design began with a glass, wood and acrylic asymmetrically-designed paneled door, available for view on the first floor of Hot Shops. Inspired by the work of Samuel Mockbee’s butterfly house and fabricated by artist Joel Holm, this eye-catching example of urbanism also borrows from the concrete foundation and strong wood of the building’s support beams; lines delineating the golden section of proportions divide the panel under a plywood counter. The door pivots on rudimentary steel hardware to allow inward and outward movement through a larger entrance.
