CORNHUSKER ENERGY
lexington, nebraska

Six months of design and about a year of construction yielded a progressive study of farm building archetypes for the 3,600 square feet of office space for a rural ethanol plant in central Nebraska.  Outside, the elegant and bold orange trim breaks up the gray of the horizontal batten concrete board and corrugated steel.  Taking visual cues from surrounding industrial plants are single support V-frames for the elevated box serving as a control tower, permitting inspectors to view into the large trucks and to sample the corn cargo.  Masonry and a vertical steel element serve as a broad sign for the entryway.  Passive solar leverages available daytime light in winter as the sun shades block the summer heat The indoor floor plan allows for plenty of offices and workspaces for scientists, engineers, accountants and other workers seeking cutting-edge, sustainable energy solutions.
