Description

EDDITH BUIS RESIDENCE
omaha, nebraska

Local artist Eddith Buis took on this remodel project in 2006. This home had literally begun as a carriage house in 1907. The goal was to make it as maintenance free as possible using as much of the existing space along with recycled or down cycled materials in a new, creative, yet responsible way.

The initial concept was to keep the existing house as a silhouette of what was originally there and add extrusions that framed external views, giving the opportunity to add to the house within the constrains of the nonconforming structure.

These “Viewing Boxes” were to anchor the house to its particular location, the entire house becoming a sculpture itself coexisting with other art pieces on the property
